The session setup from the computer <ComputerName> failed to authenticate. The name of the account referenced in the security database is <ComputerName>$. The following error occurred: Access is denied.

We get the above error message on our Domain Controllers (2000 AD Servers) and we are unable to login from that particular computer. on the workstation we get the following error "Cant Log you on. The Systems account is missing in the domain or the password on that account is incorrect.

We are unable to reset the Secure Channel using NETDOM, NLTEST as we get an Access Denied Error message. the only solution which has worked is to re add it to the domain. We are concerned it might affect Domain Controllers or Servers as well, which we obviously cant re-add to the domain. Can anyone throw light on

a) Why this is happening (i.e why are the computers losing sync with the domain)
b) how else can we resolve it without having to readd it to the domain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
