when I check the dependancies, it comes with the win32 this service is not installed.

We are upgrading the network from 2000 to 2003 and this has occurred on the lab we are using to try to work out the bugs for this migration. It is the 2000 lab server that this has occurred on. It is the root. The 2003 server is running fine. I noticed this problem when I was installing exchange 2000 and an error popped up concerning the ms dtc service. I tried a few other services and they are all coming up as not being installed even though they say they are running.

Any help would be appreciated. My head is ringing from all of the brick walls it has been hitting.

Remote registry service says it has started, but again, when I click to check the dependancies, it says that the service is not installed. I stopped it and restarted it and the same message comes up.

Thanks for responding, if you have more ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Did a lot more cussing and research, and I came up with knowledge base article 298928.

The problem is that when working through the resolution steps, when I try to get into the security tab, it won't let me because of a problem with the wmi control. Which is what I am trying to fix, by the way. I then tried to do the workaround, but while trying to install the service pack I get the error that it can't install because of... you guessed it a wmi error.

Does anyone know how I may fix this? I would be totally grateful. It's pretty sad when you can't fix an error because of the same error. Thanks,

Rob

Have you tried using the wmi control mmc?

wmimgmt.msc

The wmi control mmc is where I was when I was trying to access the security tab when I was going through the steps on the knowledge base article.

OK, I ran the 2000 server install again as an upgrade and the services came back. However instead of all of them logging in as local service they had a variety, I am guessing that it was because I did not unhook the network cable to the other server and it impacted how the services would be ran.

I can not gain access to the alerter and dtc services. So I am chalking this up as a learning experience and I am going to slick the server and redo it by the numbers.
