On a remote VOIP site, I'm getting 'service unavailable' on all the phones (Nortel 1120e) when trying to connect to the PBX. The phones have static DHCP including the signalling server

Can someone shed some light on this error, is it a switch error or a phone error?

What sort of troubleshooting steps are there for this. My phone provider isn't being much help.

Thanks

Steve

Maybe the message is "Server Unreachable"?

I would double check the phones connectivity and settings, including the default gateway.

Can you ping the Node IP from a PC at that location?

Basically, the phone is trying to reach the call server Node IP, and is unable to see it. It could be the network, it could be the settings in the phone, it could be the local network not routing to the Node IP address, it could be almost anything.

static DHCP" that's a oxymoran if there ever was one.. it's either static ip or dhcp (dynamic).. but try this..

plug a pc into the ethernet port your ip phone is trying to use.. change the ip address to the phones ip as well as the default gateway address and any vlan information.. then try to ping your ss..

step one is to establish a TESTED path from the jack to the ss..
