I'm having problem with the installation of Service pack 3 on a client agent for Arcserve 2000. Once the decompressing phase of the patch is done, update.exe start and then immediately I have a Dr.Watson on the process update.exe.

Anyone have this problem or suggestion??

I have the problem on any server that i tried. I am running NT 4 and SP6a on my servers.

Thanks

Mate,
I don't recommend you use service pack 3 just yet! Wait a while.... a long while.

Any other questions, let me know.

'installed it on arcserve2000 on windows2000, no problem. haven't tried though on nt4. check your free disk space and mem. ;)

Hi!

We have also some problems with SP3 upgrade on the agents on NT4 servers. If we upgraded Internet Explorer to ver 5.5 then the installation works...

Best Regards
Thomas

DOn't forget that the newer versions of Arcserve require IE5.5 or greater as the new Manager is basically a browser interface. -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

Install intmsiw.exe from the "\IntelNT\MSI" directory on your ArcServe CD - this will update the MS installer software on your machine. This is also included in IE 5.5, that's why the fixes it as well

Best wishes,
Alan

I have succesfully installed SP 3 a couple of days ago.
We are running Win2K Advanced Server.

Main reason why I did it is because the job would crash (although not consisntently) at the end. The crash is in fact so bad it ends up causing a kernel stack inpage error (BSOD) and reboots the whole server. What's interesting is that our other ArcServe 2000 server also running on Win2K AS has been running w/out any problems. Go figure.

In the end SP3 did not help the matter. So far no luck with getting decent CA help either.

Tipet,

if your prob is during uncompression, you can move QO05692.CAZ on another server. QO05692.CAZ will create 3 exe files- (95AgentSP3.EXE, NotesSP3.EXE, and SP3.EXE itself). if you dont have lotus notes/win95 agents, then just copy the sp3.exe to your nt agent servers and install.

i'm just wondering why ip resolution is not supported in sp3- "DR Option: Remote Disaster Recovery supports only
Computer Name Resolution. Using IP resolution is
not supported". this could pose some problems in large organizations.

Kewl...

Disaster Recovery using IP for win 2k was never supported theoretically, it only just became official. If you go through a DR by a backup that wrote the info with from an agent which was configured with IP only, then you'll find during the DR process NO SESSIONS appear on the screen to DR from. You need Computer Name resolution for this to work.
