Service not starting

I'm trying to start a Crystal Repport Application Server service on a Win 2K server, SP4. I have my personal user name, and also a new user name to start it with. If I use my username, then it begins OK. Using the new user name returns an error - "Service did not start, the service did not return an error".
I could use a local system account, but I need to access other stuff on the network from this service so I need a domain user name to start the service.

Both user names have the same permissions, and are both AD user names.

Does anyone have any ideas to help ?
