Server to Server migration

Description of the probem: Before I started with this company, someone broke thier domain (123.com). I have built a new domain to replace 123.com, and have nemaed it the same, to make life easier for the users. I have built the new domain and exchange store. Now I would like to place this on the wire with the old domain and exchange store, and migrate users email from one to the other. The new domain is running on a single box at the moment, and resolving it's own DNS. It is not dishing out DHCP and not hosting WINS at the moment.

Questions: What are some of the issues I will see? Will this work? What do I need to do to make this work?

Anything I might have missed that you can help me with would be excellent.

I don't believe you can use move mailbox unless the Exchange servers are part of the same Exchange site.

You will need to use ExMerge to create PST files that can then be brought into the new domain.

If you have not already created your user accounts, then I would use ADMT to do it and to preserve SID History.

By using the same domain name you may have made more work for yourself. Even though the NetBIOS name is the same, the Domain SID is different. The machines will all need to be joined to the new domain. Again I would suggest using ADMT for this.

What if I renamed my domain to 123.local. I did not do that because I was concerned about automatically generating emails for 123.com instead of 123.local. Would this work?

No, when you install Exchange you have to tell it if it is part of an organization.
