server hardware upgrade

I've got a server running AD and Exchange, and the time has come to replace the box it runs on. I need to keep the same server name though. Here's what I think I can do:

1. dcpromo the new box so it syncs with AD
2. install Exchange
3. import all exchange settings/mailboxes
4. take old server offline
5. rename the new one to the old name

Is that how it should be done? If so, how do I accomplist number 3?
