Hi all,

I am experiencing this problem in my environmental test network which is composed as follows:

1 Domain controller (W2k Adv. server) with its own domain (Florence)

1 Domain Controller (W2k Adv. Server) and the following child domain (Hotel)

I have created folder enabling the share option in parent domain (Florence) and everything seems to be Ok when when I set the share and NTFS permissions between the user of the above domain; I wanted to the same with those users listed in the Child domain (Hotel) but when I click in the "look in" window of "Selecet Users, Computers or Gruop", for selecting the child domain, I always get this message:

" Cannot display objects from this location because of the following error:

The Server is not operational".

For your information I can map the folder from any computer .... so do you know what is wrong in this configuration?

Thanks in advance for your support

Leo

One problem that I could see in your configuration is the following:
Having one DC in root domain it will keep all Operations Master on it.
Infrastructure Master if it is o the same DC with Global Catalog it will not work. Without infrastructure master there will be no replication of changed objects. A trick is to set Global Catalog on all DCs .
Your error with server is not operational is reffering to one of the Operations Master roles.
Check also to see if those roles are properly assigned. Gia Betiu

Thanks GiaBetiu for your answer; I checked the Global Catalog box in the Child Domain too andI was quite sure to fix the problem but unfortunately it doesn't work yet; I am new with AD so can you please explain what should I do to check the Operation Master Roles please?

If this may help you, I found out that I cannot map the child domain controller evev typing the UNC address in Internet Explorer browser.

Any suggestions?
Thanks again
Leo
