server connection

I don't have a cisco router but I'm sure they all work similarly. I have a webserver that goes through a router using port forwarding for http port 80. It's works fine for other computers accessing my server but I can't access it localy(behind the router). Can anyone explain why this is happening. I'm a newbie using a router and all help will be much appreciated. I hope this is the proper forum for such a question. If not please let me know where I should post it.

1) Did you use the URL to access your web server? Which IP address will this URL resolve to? (public or private?)

2) Can you use the internal/private IP address to access your web server when you're behind the router?

Thanks for the reply.I can see the server behind the router using the private IP. I use a public URI to access the router then resolve it to a private one through port forwarding. I'm confused because the domain name is redirected to the router so if I try access the server it has to go out to the redirector and back again. In my mind the router should see the incoming request from a remote address.
