Server cannot join domain.

I am pulling my hair out here!!!!

I have a W2K domain with 2 domain controllers running AD. I am trying to add another server to the domain as a member.

I have added an account for the new server on the DC and added a DNS record for the server manually.
I have pointed the new member to the DNS settings of the DC.
All the servers are on the same subnet, so WINS shouldn't be required.
Whenever I try to add the new server to my domain, it asks for an account with permissions to join.....etc. I enter the administrator account details, and then I get the error.

Any ideas please?

you didn't need to add the new server account to the DC before joining the domain try deleting the account and the dns record and then joining the domain again. make sure that when you delete the account that it replicates to the other DC You will also need to use a Domain administrator account and password not the local administrator account of the server.If your dns is active directory integrated it should create a dns record for you when you join the domain.let me know how you get on. andy graham

Thanks for your advice.
I removed both the DNS record and the computer account from the DC's. I then let them replicate.
I still get the 'domain password is incorrect' error. I am 100% positive the domain password I'm using is correct.

I'm beginning to run out of ideas.

you can create a user and give him permission to add computers to the domain, i'm not sure but you might have to do it through the delegation wizard then when it asks for a user with permission to join a computer to a domain give the new account details.once again make sure that the new account is replicated between DCs andy graham

I have looked this up, after you have created your new user open the domain controller security policy tool in administrative tools open local policies\user rights assignment you should see a list of user rights on the right hand side double click the add workstations to domain right and add the user that you have just created once this has replicated you should be able to join your server to the domain.good luck. andy graham

You might also want to go to local users and groups, click on the admin group and add the user to the group. Glen A. Johnson

Hi!

A old tip maby but have you tried including the domain name when you pass the user name and password.

domain\user
password.
