I'm installing 03 Server in a new environment with a list of about 240 users to enter. In NT/2000 there was a utility called ADDUSERS.EXE that created users and security groups from a specially formatted CSV file. But MS doesn't list ADDUSERS.EXE as a utility that works on 2003.

Has anyone used ADDUSERS.EXE on a 2003 Domain, or do you know what the replacement utility is? Thanks all!

Nick

You can use CSVDE to import or export obects in AD using a csv file. CSVDE is a command line tool, give it the old /? for syntax.

You can also use "dsadd user" in 2003. CSVDE is much more robust, but you need to know which attributes you want to import into your AD.

If you do use CSVDE, I suggest you use the following attributes: (dn, objectClass, and sAMAccountName are required attributes)

dn
cn
objectClass
sAMAccountName
displayName
userPrincipalName
givenName
sn
description

I have a script i'd be willing to share which uses the DS add command for users, specifies their home directory, roaming profile, random password, etc. I use it on a SQL server because my accounts are created when events on our intranet occur which then creates users on our network. Uses a series of cacl commands to set all the directory permissions and such too.

If you would like it let me know, you could probably modify the SQL to a bat file or such and could use it without SQL. We did it in SQL because we wanted the database events to trigger account creation, and also the system e-mails the user a message with their account info. My inital population was about 70 people which I just ahd to feed to the stored procedure.
