Serial port up/down repeatedly (still...)

First off thanks to all who are helping me...

I've got 3 2501's connected back-to-back with DTE/DCE cables.
All routers are working fine...except S1 on one router, it keeps coming up and going down no matter what other router it's connected to...
I noticed one thing....it does it every 10 seconds...(the keepalive time)...can anybody help me further?

I've set the clockrate and checked and re-checked all the cables...I've reloaded the router and started fresh but still up/down every 10 seconds.....

Put it on Smartnet through Cisco.. pay the money.. about 200 a year. Wait a week then call TAC. They will drop ship you a refurb'ed router with a tag to return this one.. assuming they can not fix it over the phone. On the plus side, the contract gives you a real CCO userID and password.. comes in handy at times

Or try to find a shop that does board level repairs.. there are a few around.

On Serial1 Interface of router in question: Strip the config off, give it a rfc1918 ip ,/30, and set the encapsulation to HDLC. Then build a loop back plug (do a search on google for documentation). Loop the interface back to itself. If you are still seeing the interface flap than you probably have a bad card. To verify, swap the card out for a known good one and test w/ the loopback plug again. If the problem follows the card, replace it. I don't know what serial cards for 2501's are going for but it may save u a few $$ over replacing the whole box.

I will check that out...but I'm thinking that since I just got these routers a week ago and this interface has never been "reliable" maybe I should get a replacement box from the seller?...

and by the way...if I disable keepalives...the line never goes down.... but I cannot ping thru it...and "sh cdp neighbors" shows no devices connected.????

If I recall correctly, the serial cards are not cards at all but a group of chips on the single board in the 2501. So there is not any *replacement* of cards except for the whole router.

As far as Smartnet goes, it doesnt matter if it's used or not. I have a whole rack of equipment on Smartnet, all of which I purchased used piecemeal. Out that rack, two routers have been replaced under contract by Cisco over the last 2 years.

My bad. Wybnormal is right....the interfaces on the 2501 are integrated! It does look like you have a hardware issue, since it's a recent purchase, I'd take it back to the seller since it's never worked properly. Smartnet sounds like a steal if you have several cisco devices.
