Going on a year now, I have been unable to send mail to AOL from my domain. I have a static IP thru my ISP with Win2k server and Exchange 2k. All outgoing mails to AOL are returned undeliverable. So far the following determinations have been made:

1. My IP resolves to my ISP's domain rather to my own. I realize this could be part of the problem. I have called my ISP to request that they modify the MX record so that the IP resolves to my domain but apparently they did not do that.

2. At one time, I had an open relay and was flagged by ORDB but I immediately handled the problem, secured the relay, and was removed from the ORDB database. I have requested an open relay search thru AOL postmaster site but of course they send notification to postmaster@ipaddress so I wont get that e-mail notification - my ISP will.

3. The most recent development is that I sent an e-mail thru mail2web.com using my domain account to an AOL address and the mail DID go thru. This makes things somewhat interesting.

I would appreciate any advice on where I should go from here. I can provide more info if necessary. Tnanks in advance for any help.

We have the same problem. At first, it would just take days to go to an AOL mailbox. Now they they don't go at all.

Exchange 5.5

Your ISP probably hasn't created a PTR record, so you're failing a reverse lookup and AOL won't even listen (nor would my company's e-mail server, for that matter).

You need to get that fixed. If your ISP is too lazy, then you need to shop for a real outfit.

has a bunch of tests you can run on your DNS settings, including a Spam database lookup.
