Hi,
I would like to know if from outlook you can send a secondary smtp (alias) address instead of your primary from Exchange 5.5

Just to make this hopefully a little more clear what I would like to have accomplished.

The O/S on the client side is win98 running outlook 97 and on the Exchange server the primary email address is someone@thisdomain and would like for their secondary address someone@anotherdomain to be sent out from outlook without having to create two profiles or is this a config on the Exchange server with setting up custom recipients?

Your help would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi Glen,

The only way I know how to do this is from the exchange server. Go into the recipients container and go into the properties for the user's account. In the E-mail addresses tab you will see the X400 and SMTP addresses (plus any other any addresses for other connectors you use). You can add the second SMTP e-mail address from here.

Click on New
Choose Internet Address
Enter the secondary e-mail address
Highlight the new SMTP address and click on Set as Reply Address

I think you can only set one reply-to address on an account though.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Bremmerz,

I had created the secondary smtp address however,
I guess that as you mentioned you can only send from one address.

I guess I would have to create a second profile and have the user send from the second address once they login using the secondary profile?

thanks for your help anyways!

hey Glen, you do need to create a second mailbox, however, if you assign the user permission to that mailbox in exchange admin, all they need to do is open the second mailbox in their outlook client to send and receive mail from it. Be sure to include the FROM field when composing new mail messages so this user can choose what account to send from. Be advised, however, that no matter what account the user chooses to send from , the sent items will go into the Primary accounts Mailbox....
