I have Windows 98 SE on one of my computers. When I go into MSCONFIG, Selective Startup is selected and if I try to change it back to Normal Startup, it will not stay. The next time I go into MSCONFIG (after rebooting or reloading Windows), it's set back to Selective Startup.

I have seen a MS knowledgebase article on the problem, but it does not apply in my case - I have already cleared everything I can in Advanced Troublshooting Settings ("use SCSI double buffering" is dimmed and can't be unselected). Any help would be appreciated.

When you reboot after a change in msconfig, you get that warning box, there is a check box on it you must check before clicking ok, did you do that?

I'm not sure which warning box your talking about. I click on Normal Startup, then click OK and I am told that the PC needs to reboot. The PC then reboots and comes up without any messages, but its set back to Selective Startup. I am not near the PC this evening so I will double check this tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I do not get a warning box.
