I have "inherited" an access database in my position as an administrator and I need to create a new report or two. The database logo has a blue lock on it and the new button on the report section is not active. Can anyone help please ?? The person who created the database has now left the company.

Thanks
Jacqui

What extension does your DB have? .mde and .ade DB's can't have their Forms or Reports altered.

I'm not familiar with the blue lock, but try creating a new database. From the menu select File-> Get External Data-> Import, select the DB your having problems with. Click on the Tables Tab, click the Select All button, repeat this for all the tabs, Queries, Forms etc. Click the OK button, this might work.

If the above doesn’t work and your company can afford $399.00, then you can try AccessFix at or AccessRecovery at both programs most of the time can rebuild a database no matter what security has been instigated on a DB, which is one reason why I, personally don’t use Access as a Back End. You can download a demo of both programs to see if they will work for you. So long as the DB isn’t encrtyted or as I said .mde or .ade you should get you DB back.
