I set up a web cam and tried to get to it last night. The infobar asked if I wanted to install activex controls but after it did the next infobar said "security settings do not allow you to run activex on this computer" (paraphrased). I have looked but do not find any place that the activex is being stopped. Can somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I had this happen on my computer a long time ago. I can't even remember what it was that cause it. If I remember right, I think I went to internet explorer, then Tools, options, then under the advanced tab, scroll down to under security and check the box that says "Allow active content to run in files on my Computer." I think that's the right one. Let me know if that works.

Control Panel, Internet Options, Security, Internet zone, Custom level, enable ActiveX in the subsection detailing the running of ActiveX controls and scripts.

Other security programs (such as firewalls etc.) may have preferences set to block ActiveX.

OK the exact message is "Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer" I have tried Bill's suggestion to set the activex settings to enable (most were that way in the first place.) I also set the internet security to low and tried that. One other bit of information. If I download a program and then on the saving file dialog select "run" it doesn't I always have to save the file, navigate to it and then run it. I have zonealarm as my firewall but don't see any options there that might cause this. I'm working through linney's suggestions but I thought I would let you know where I was.

See:
In addition, you may need to make adjustments in the ActiveX definitions for the local computer lockdown zone. See: You might need to set permissive values on these security principles in Zone 0:
Code:
   1001 Download signed ActiveX controls
   1004 Download unsigned ActiveX controls
1200 Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
1201 Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe
1206 Allow scripting of Internet Explorer Webbrowser control
   1400 Active scripting
   1402 Scripting of Java applets
1405 Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting

I have the same problem but with me I cannot access secured websites. When trying to access secured websites I get a blankpage right after putting in a user id/password. I tried to change my Internet Security settings but my security options are disabled. For example - from Internet OPtions, Security - I am not able to even click on my custome level.. Its all disabled. Is there anyway around this?

Thanks for the links but that didn't help me much... The first one had some good information, but the second one didn't apply to me. The third link I couldn't even open. let me explain my problem and see may be if you can help in your own words.

When I go to Internet Properities then Security I only have the two options under "Select a web content zone to specify its security setting". the options are "trusted sites" & "restricted sites." The security level is on medium but its disabled so I cannot move it up or down... the "customer level" and "default level" buttons are also disabled..... Thank you in advance for your help...

You only have those two options under the Security tab?

Is this a stand-alone computer, or a Domain member?

Its a Domain member.. and yes sir I only have the two options under the Sec tab.

Actually, your error message is very similiar to one I've seen using the program "Drop my rights". Are you an administrator on this machine?

OK, I've tried the things bcastner recommended but nothing has helped yet.I've reset the security in IE. Ive turned off Zonealarm and windows firewall and my virus protection all to no avail. Now I can't even do windows updates because Microsoft wants to add an actixex component. I'll run another full virus scan and spybot scan to see if that will help.

I've added the website as a trusted site but it still doesn't work. I still get the blank white page... This is on certain secured sites such as Citibank's. Any ideas on what I can do?

200520052005,

You are in a Domain so your problems may be as a result of your Domain Administrator and the settings he is applying to the Workstations via Group Policy.

It may have been less confusing for you if you had started a new thread because a lot of the responses here have been directed toward "franklin97355" and his problem which seems to be unrelated to your problem.

Pages that require username - password will not display
thread779-941666

You Receive a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" Error Message When You Post to a Site That Requires Authentication

Programs like SpyBot Search and Destroy can also be configured to prevent changes to IE.

Internet Explorer Fix

linney ~ thank you.. It looks like there is no way out of it since I'm part of a domain. I was hoping that one of you teky boyz would know a way around it..

OK, here's another question. Can I do a repair install with an XP disk over an install with sp2 installed. I have the original disk but it is just that windows XP plain.
