I have a secured database that I need to make a change to a form in. I login as me, I have admin rights, but when I go to design view of my form, it tells me that I 'do not have exclusive rights to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may be unable to save them later.' No one else is in the database and I have set it to open exclusively.

I have a separate databse that is secured and that one lets me make changes to it with no problem. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you might have a rogue .ldb file hanging out there. With the database closed, go to Windows Explorer and see if you find a .ldb file for that database. If there is, you can try and delete it. If it won't delete, you will probably have to reboot the machine it's on.

Already did, there's no .ldb out there. Melissa

Sorry, I'm not sure where to look from here. Do you have any other secured databases using that .mdw file that act OK? Is it just that one Form? Could you create another Db, and try to import that Form, then do the work you need an import it back into the secured Db. Crummy workaround but it might work.

It won't let me change ANY forms and it won't let me import a form that I changed in another database. Melissa

Got it! I had a secured database in the same directory. Access automatically names that .mdw as Secured.mdw. I had renamed it to match the name of my database, which in this case was a date 11-5-2002.mdb and 11-5-2002.mdw. Apparently, access doesn't like the hyphens in the file name of the .mdw. Took out the hyphens and it works fine!

Thanks for the suggestions and effort Paul. I appreciate it. Melissa

Thought I'd post the real reason the database wouldn't let me in, in case someone else has the same problem. You can't name an .mdb the same as your .mdw. When you open the .mdw it creates a .ldb file just like when you open the .mdb. So, once you get in the db, the .ldb created from the .mdw locks you out of your database!

Melissa:
Good Tek-Tipper! Reviewing old posts and posting follow ups is a great way to educate others! Thanks.

Melissa, I have to agree with votegop. Posting a follow up that clarifies the situation and improved the overall understanding of the solution is very professional.
Thanks.
