Seeking advice on a call recording system to run with an IP Office 412. It is for 100 users scalable to 250. The key capabilities are Secure Encrypted recordings storable in secure files or tape for playback.

This is for a large Legal firm the IPO Contact Store will not suffice in any way as the files are easily edited with a Codec.

The engineer’s toolkit makes reference to the following but this again is in no way secure

I am guessing the solution would either be
1, Involving Dialogic cards of some shape
2, Physical connections attached to the handset of the 54XX

The units I have seen in the past have been Tape based, but I for the life of me cannot remember the branding.

What about the full blown Witness Contact Store. ?

Any input would be great!

Umm anotherprivatebuild !!!

I've work with both Oak Provoice and Activa Veritel, both ISDN 30 recorders. The Oak recorded fine, but the matching software (that matches extns to recorded calls) never worked properly. The client was also slow and awkward to use.

The Activa had a porblem with channels locking up, but their tech support were very helpful and fixed the issue with a firmware upgrade. The web client is easy to use, with good user admin features.

Both these systems are PC based, and connect between the system and the ISDN. Both were setup to backup to DVD, but I guess tape would be an option.

Forgot to address your main point - both of these system use secure recording formats. I also misread your comments about tapes, I don't know of any way to make an audio recording to tape with these systems.

There are multiple call recorders out there. My preference would by Audiolog by Mercom (

However, the security aspect is the hard one, most server based call recorders will use a codec, which can be used to edit the recording. Maybe something like a NICE or the dictaphone call recorder ("freedom" I think) which are dedicated and proprietry hardware may be a wortha look.

Likewise I would forget handset tapping as a technology, it is far too unreliable...

Take Care

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Trisys Telecom is coming out with a recording adjunct that will associate recording with their appropriate call accounting CDR. Not sure if it is proprietary or encrypted - you would have to check with them...(due in april I believe)
