Hopefully as simple question:

We want to set up a secure connection to a remote Oracle database. The target is on Unix (Linux I think), and the client is on Win2000. However, we would like a solution that is portable at least across server platforms (the client will always be Win2000).

We want it to look to the client as if the database is local, so that we can use an OLEDB connection from the client. The target database will be accessed across the internet. There seem to be a whole host of security options available for Oracle, but I guess that one or two mechanisms are widely used. Which are these?

Any suggestions as what we should use? If more information is needed from me, let me know.

Thanks

If your clients have known IP-addresses you can also configure the Oracle connection manager CMAN.

By this way you can specify access rules and you can use nice features like connection pooling
