Hi all,

This should not be bothering me, but it is and I want to throw a question out. I have read several posts and looked for this on the knowledgebase and I cannot find a clear answer.

Is the secondary server address stored on phone visible anywhere? I dont see an entry in the 46xxsettings.txt file for it and I dont subscribe to adding a 2nd call server to DHCP.

Thoughts?

It varies with the type of phone but you didn't say what type. With most of 1600/9600 its not done through DHCP or the settings file. At initial registration, the phone's main IP Office system tells it the address of its backup as per the Backs up my IP phones settings of the SCN lines. No easy way to check it as far as I'm aware (unless someone near a system right now can see if the value shows up in SSA).

The part often missed is that if you change the backup settings, the phones aren't updated until the next time they are restarted (damn mergeable settings when they actually do need a reboot).

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Thank you Sizbut, you confirmed my thoughts. This is for an installation I am currently in the midst of with 1000 9600 phones. The customer asked me how the phone acquires the failover IPOffice address... and I have done enough to know it works, but I have never seen the address anywhere in the phones configuration.
Thanks again for replying
