Recently replaced a Norstar MICS with an Avaya IPO (R7), generally well received but the following is a constant complaint from the Users:
If User A calls User B and user B is on a call User A has no indication of this (other than to program a BLF button on their phone) The Norstar would have displayed an "on another call" message in the display of User A's phone
Part 2
When User B is on a call and a second call comes to that extension the phone rings one time then continues to flash on the second intercom button until being answered by voice mail, if User A does not hear the brief ring and is not looking at the phone the call is missed. The previous system would have continued to ring the second intercom at a lower volume until the call went to voice mail.
Is there a way to implement anything close to what the previous system provided?
Thanks
Tom

Remove the 3rd Apperance key & make sure Reserve_last_ca is enabled. then when calling a busy extn it will go straight to VM.

there is a setting in the User - Telephony - Multi Line options tab called "Attention Ring" it is set by default to Abbreviated ring and if you set it to Ring it will ring until the call goes to Vm

Thanks Guys
The Attention Ring will be a huge help on the called extension! Is there any way to provide the internal caller with an alert that the called extension is on a call?
Thanks Again

Ugg...was afraid of that. Is there a way for the caller to hear a call waiting tone similar to when you call a cell phone and that person is on the phone?

Only on analogue phones, on IP/Dig it rings the handset :)

You can try announcements in user settings but notice that it applies to all incoming calls.(int/ext)

Ignore me, I saw call waiting and thought you meant a tone to the engaged user.....

ignore me too for my last comment i thought that announcements were playing when the user is busy.

Announcements sounds interesting.....how would that work?
Thanks Again
Tom

announcements would work like in a group and basically play a queued message.
But
You could do the following to get close to what you want if you have Vm Pro

forward the user on busy (including Internal calls) to a shortcode you create (you would need a different shortcode for each user though)
then send the shortcode to voicemail Node with the <Name>Busy and in there create a menu with a greeting, User <name> is busy to leave a vm press 1 or stay on the line to get a call when free press any other digit

then send the $ option to a CP value and transfer it to a shortcode that has a ringback when free feature with the CP value as extension.
you need to probably build each of them separately except if you find a way to make the CP value the called Users extension.

Only downside is that this is working also for external callers.
