Can i have a few of ya take a look for that file on your Exchange 2k hard drives. seckm.dll is used for System Attendant along with:

Dsaccess.dll
Dsproxy.dll
Abv_dg.dll
Ds2mb.dll
Madfb.dll
Oabgen.dll

My install has all but Seckm.dll, So im hoping if i return this file, my problems might be resolved. Please help fast, as Exchange isnt somthing we can do without for a day

I think that file only loads if you're running Key management server...what errors are you getting in the event viewer?

Event viewer shows no errors, except for System attendant failed, then a cascading failure of exchange. And an error about "Unable to load type Library/dll" <- which is a C++ error code (like 80002c4a or somthing like it...its not documented anywhere). Plus Active directory took a dive on me too. (*which is probably the driving problem*)

yeah, AD taking a header would be the cause of all your problems here, as the System Attendant won't start if it can't find DC. No changes lately? SP's? Any software loaded recently?

No real changes, my associate put sp3 from windowsupdate.com after the fact...I then removed it knowing it brings up some issues in exchange anyhow. SP2 Win2k Server, running SQL2k IIS Exch2k AD. DCpromo to demote doesnt work either. "error is :Cannot contact other server" (paraphrased) Brandon W

I'm guessing you have another DC...and assuming you'd like to get mail up and running as soon as possible, can you build up another exchange server and put the databases from the first server in it? If that works, you can work on fixing the connectivity issues that the first server has...

True, I will probably do that, I can setup exchange on the other box rather easily...But the DB for our old exchange???? will it just >>>YIPPY up and run? Exchange store was shut down "Dirty" but they stm and mdb are synced. Im SOOO worried to do an offline backup restore...because they are so unpredictable Brandon W

It should come up if they're synched and consistent, and you can just do a file copy (I know they're probably large) if you want. The stores aren't coming up right now anyway...

Isnt there a bunch of stuff like...must be on same server name, same environment, same partition, same everything??? PLUS, a "Dirty Shutdown" means the files are no longer consistent. (new terminoligy with Exchange2k) The files ARE identical pair...so they wont be a mismatch...but the shutdown was screwed up..(the services failed on shutdown...so the store wasnt dismounted well) I read the offline restore procedures, and it says you must have a clean dismount.....(sounds like the olympics....hmmph...it is an olypic task!) Brandon W

yes, same ORG and server name. I don't think the partition thing is necessary. You would install W2K on the new server, (the old one has to be shut down and it's account removed from AD), apply all your service packs, etc..make sure the new machine is a member of Exchange Domain Servers, then run a SETUP /DISASTERRECOVERY for Exchange. That's a bit vague, but I'm pretty sure MS has an article on this that will provide more detail....

Thanks. I have a bud (expert in AD) checking it out right now. If he can't survive AD, then I will reccomend your idea to him Brandon W
