I have been tasked with upgrading the hard disks within a windows 2000 file and print server. I am trying to work out how they are connected to the controllers. There are 4 basic disks installed and the hardware manager shows 4 SCSI controllers. Can i find out through windows 2000 which disks are connected to which controllers? or do I have to open up the machine?

Jaydeebe,
Is the server you are using a name brand (DELL, HP, Compaq, etc...) or Generic?

Many times if its name brand there will be a utility that you can install on the server which will show you what drives are connected to which controllers. Go to the manufacturers support page and look for downloads for your server. The software is usually under controllers. Always good to get the latest version.

If it is a Generic server, hopefully the controllers are the same and name brand. Adaptec for instance has the storagemanager software that comes with the controller and is downloadable, based on your controller type, from their website.

It's a Dell poweredge and all adapters are adaptec. Thanks for your advice I will check out the Dell and Adaptec websites.
