scripting displaying and listing out permissions

I'm sure this has been posted or requested frenquently but I wasnt able to find it in any of the thread titles...

what i want to do is to specify a location and have a sript print out or display all of the assigned permissions for objects in this location. I would also like to be able to control how many child levels it goes down (I don't want to see reams of perms printed out on C files from some low level directories)

any ideas or stuff that has already been done?

while i'm at it..printing out ownership would be nice as well
