script to open cad files

Bear with me on this one:
I have recently been given the task to post a link on our company website that when clicked opens up a PDF file.
In the PDF file is a design layout with the options at the bottom to
Open DWG file, Open DXF file, and Copy CAD file.
I downloaded a free CAD Viewer and was able to open and view the DXF file.
When my sales team went to the customers site to demo this they were unable to open the DXF file with their CAD Viewer (linking from our company site). Our customer spends a lot of time with CAD files and has many CAD Viewers...none of which would open my file.
However, if they used the CD-ROM version I provided they were able to open the file in their CAD viewer.
I have virtually NO experience with CAD files and don't even know how to fix this or what is wrong. The customer needs to be able to download these DXF files from our site because we will update them frequently.
I was told by the webmaster at my customers site that this can be achieved by writing some java script.
I'm at a loss...can anyone get me on track?

What exactly do you want the JavaScript to do?

Perhaps they meant Java which is completely different and has 3D capabilities?

I lack the knowledge to answer this question fully but I will post what little knowledge I have...

Afaik, CAD files generally contain lots of vectors and I have seen HTA (JavaScript/HTML program) that converts one CAD file type into another, I don't remember which file types (though AutoCAD is a maybe) and I don't remember if it displayed anything - I bumped into this HTA with a Google search sometime last year :/

Perhaps if you posted the syntax of a file, a similar solution for parsing it with JavaScript could be found but to the best of my knoweldge JavaScript lacks the power to render complex vector graphics and will probably be unsuitable for displaying the 3D image - it would certainly be beyond my abilities!

VRML could probably display your CAD images but again, I lack the knowledge to be of any assistance.

Or.. hehe, maybe I flew off at a funky tanjent and missed the point entirely!

Perhaps you are looking for an ActiveX that opens the CAD file with the supplied viewer application?
