I've been running the same Perl scripts for a few years now: At the command line and on Win 2k. For some reason, the time it takes to execute them has increased SIGNIFICANTLY in the past few days. Not in performing the task designated but in getting them to run/open. Moreover, when I click to highlight the files (in their folder), my CPU spikes to 100%. These are not huge files and I can't figure out why they take so long to run/open (especially since I'm accustomed to having them run efficiently). I've scanned for ad-ware and viruses.

Thanks in advance.

turn off your virus scan programs and try and run them.
