Hi, I had a problem with my screen jumping up and down.
Tried everything your Tec's suggested but to no avail.
I then had a problem with the desktop and transferred the mouse and keyboard to my laptop. Suddenly the pages on the laptop started jumping as well until I disconnected the mouse!
Went to buy another mouse and that was that... The old mouse was an optical mouse with a cable. Thanks. Ronny

That is normally a device driver problem. I get that when the wrong device driver has been loaded. Try moving the mouse from the touchpad and all sorts of windows pop up. Not only that, the mouse dances around the page. If I plug in a USB mouse and don't touch the touchpad, everything works fine. If I then load up the correct device driver for the touchpad, everything is back to normal.

Tried the new driver from the cd. I un-installed and reinstalled but really... I just had enough. The new mouse started working just fine without a driver from the enclosed cd. I'm happy that the mouse had a defect. It was 3.5 years old anyway. Cost me about $15.00 The old one was PS3 and the new one is USB

Just to clarify: this site has no 'tecs' - just other users who kindly donate their time and expertise

Mice gone bad can cause the weirdest of symptoms. Don't forget to uninstall the unneeded device driver for the old mouse. If you chop the tail off they make attractive paper weights - LOL - no, not really!

ahomeser, thanks for sharing and glad you found your problem and got it solved...

You guys have any idea how to get a Windows program started?
I loaded a Windows program which had to get registered within 30 days. It's a XP Pro version original cd.
I had a problem with my mother's health and when I returned, the registration had expired. Tried to do the phone registration but it keeps telling me the program is a fake. IT IS NOT!
Well, I need to retrieve my info but...
Please help.
Thanks.
Ronny

ahomeser I suggest you start your own thread, you are more likely to get an answer than by hijacking an existing thread.

You do phone registration and talk to a human - if that fails then it is a fake - does it have the real proper holographic logo? If not it is most likely a fake? You need to post more information. Basically you have given insufficient data for a meaningful answer.

Tried to do the phone registration but it keeps telling me the program is a fake.

You mean the automated phone response said it was fake? Really? I thought as soon as you put in a questionable license number, it transferred you to a real person. You could then describe to him or her the situation you're in.

Ahomeser, if you need to get back to the 30 days grace period there is a workaround, when the Activate Windows XP now screen prevents you from proceeding further and the automated activation system is not cooperating:

It relies on a windows accessibility feature - Narrator - which speaks to unsighted users, and is available during the Activation process.

At the login window, click yes for the "Lets Activate Windows" window

press the "windows key" and the U key together to activate accessibility features - select Narrator

click About Narrator (at this point I turned off the sound!) to expose the loophole -

click the link to Microsoft web site to open Internet Explorer

In the Internet Explorer (or default browser) address bar type

C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe and enter

(I am assuming that C:\windows is where the XP windows directory is)

As this is a browser, you may need to save cmd.exe before you can open it from the downloads window - odd but it works.

Does that give you a command prompt?

Lets just try to rearm the grace period first:

At the command prompt, type:

rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk

then enter

then

shutdown /r

to restart, fingers crossed

This may give you 30 days of grace to activate Windows

(If it does not work, there are 2 files that apparently may need registering from the command prompt thus:
regsvr32 regwizc.dll
enter
regsvr32 licdll.dll
enter
and then the magic spell:
rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk
enter)

Now with your system running, attempt to activate online. There may be specific help to be had at TechNet:

He's not talking about Windows, he's talking about a Windows program. Quite a few of them give you a grace period before you have to enter a licence key - I know Photoshop does, for example.

Interesting workaround. I still think talking to a live person at Microsoft would be quicker, but hey that's just me!
