Screen get brighter when I first boot up (gamma settings?)

I recently messed around with some of the gamma settings/color profiles in XP. Anyways, I didn't like what I did so I told XP just to not use any color profile. Now, everytime I first boot up my computer and get into Windows XP, after a few seconds the screen will all the sudden become brighter (like it's switching to different gamma settings or something).

However, over time the background will darken again - which I also can't figure out why. If my computer just started out bright and darkened over time I'd be prone to think that my monitor just needs time to warm up. However, the monitor starts out ok, but changes at a certain point after boot up (then over time goes back to normal). Any ideas how to go about fixing it? Do I need to apply a color profile to my system?
I never noticed this behaviour before I messed with the color profile and/or gamma settings.

Perhaps using System Restore to go back to a point before you changed your settings in Windows may fix it for you.

Do you have any Restore Defaults tabs on the settings you changed?

I had the same thing, my screen kept on getting bright and after about 5 seconds it went back to normal. Then about 20mins later the same thing happened. Atfirst I though it was the monitor playing up, but I upgraded my Graphics drivers and the problem has never resurfaced.

So my advice would be to try and update you graphics drivers.

hope that helps!

It's not an issue with the graphics drivers as I've had these same ones for over half a year. They are custom drivers for this model computer/video card so there isn't even an upgrade option for them. However, reinstalling them is worth a try.

I'm also wary of doing a system restore as I don't want to mess up things that I've recently done to my system.

I found the issue. It was the adobe gamma loader that came with the photopshop demo.

Anyways, can several of you confirm something for me. In display properties -> [settings tab] - advanced button -> [COLOR=Correct Tab] -> Custom Color Settings Do you have any custom color settings to chose from? Is the Restore Hardware Defaults button greyed out where you can't click it?
