I've got a T7316E that has some buttons that won't take programming. When checked with F*0, some say "Blank" and others say "Feature" and then some odd characters, like "i¢", and one says "Answer 0".

When I try to reprogram them with F*3, nothing changes.

I'm sure that this happened because I've got an MCK Extender that was loosing ports and I was trying to determine if the problem with that phone was a bad port or bad wiring. So I plugged a phone directly into the punchdown block. Unfortunately, it was a T7316...

The T7316 worked, so I removed it and tracked down the bad wiring. But when I go the T7316E plugged in...unhappy receptionist who now has to use those stupid "codes".

I didn't think the 7316E worked with the Norstar, but I'm probally wrong.

The T7316E with a T24 was working just fine until "the test".

7316 and 7316E have diff button layouts - depending on the SW version of norstar

6.0 AND before
7316 and 7316E - work as M7310 (T24 not compatible)

6.1 and above
7316E works as 7316E and compatible with T24

What was the test - is it the KIM test?
Can you program the buttons under config?
Is set lock on?

Hi senk1s, Thanks for the reply.

System is MICS 6.1.

The "test" was my check to see if the port was working by plugging in a T7316 directly on the punch block. (Some of the ports were not being "extended" by the MCK hardware.) The phone came on, so I removed it, repunched the wires on the post, and the T7316E came on.

I believe that I tried to program the buttons with NRU, but that also did not take. I'll try again later today to confirm.

Set lock is None.

Oh yes that'll happen

When you plug in a differnt kind of phone - the button settings default.
but you shd be able to program with the NRU (browser)
I do this all the time

I'll try the NRU again when I go back to the client's site.

One problem is that some of the buttons I want to program are in the top row of buttons (I put buttons to page directly to each zone). I don't believe I can program them in the NRU. Am I wrong?

Feature*3 can't override buttons already programmed by the installer as:

Line buttons,

Intercom buttons (ICM)

Or Answer DN's (like answer 0).

Blank buttons should be programmable though.

Double check your programming method and be sure you are using the correct feature codes and procedures.

MCK units (especially when configured through busy corporate server gateways) could easily be dropping packets as you are attempting to program the buttons, thereby horking up your data.
