I have three scheduled tasks on a Win2K server that have been running fine for the last month (they all involve the ftp of files to and from the server). Now when I look at the tasks they show a last run date of 5/31/2002 and a status of 'could not start'. Another great Microsoft error message - any ideas why they couldn't start?

They are all simple batch files that I can run fine by double clicking them but I can't get them to run through the task scheduler even if I right click the task and choose run.

Any help appreciated.

Have you checked the event logs? Who do run the batch files as? You can set them up to run as someone (eg admin) Might be a permissions thing...

I have had that problem in the past (even it will bite me from time to time ;) My problem was that, while I keep changing my admin account password, sometimes I fail to update that info in the scheduled task. Go figure.

No passwords have changed - I couldn't run any of the jobs so I recreated one of them - exactly the same and run it fine. Now all the jobs run fine as well??? I can't explain it but when things started working again I decided not to look any deeper and put it down to a Micro$soft hiccup. I have never had any probs with scheduled tasks before and have used them a lot.

yep 'go figure'!

Thanks for the replies

I have had the identical problem. The password has not been changed. The job simply starts coming up with could not start. When I right click it and select Run, it still says could not start. I change the password to the same thing it has always been and it will run OK then.

I have also had one case where the could not start status is there and all I do is right-click and select Run, and it DOES run (with no changes whatsoever).
