hello,
When I schedule a backup, the log shows the job failed with the error, "no new media". I do daily b/u, with 5 tapes, so each tape is cycled, so every monday the tape will have last Mondays data, etc. I have selected "overwrite" and still the job fails. When setting up the job, is there a way to ignore the media label, or have the tape be treated as "new"?

I can run a manual job with these tapes, I just get the splash prompt about overwritting the tape.

I would prefer to do this from the MS Backup program, if possible.

Hi,

Try clearing out the media pool from Removeable Storage and run the tapes. I had a similar problem with tapes saying they were "Full" even though I specified to overwrite them (I use the same method of daily full backups for tapes).

Once you delete the media from the pool it should work for you. MS backup is not that intelligent... J.R. Juiliano

thanks,

Haven't had the "full" error ( yet ;-) )

will give it a go in the morning.

right now I am retraining all the users to log out of the accounting software at end of day so that the data gets backed up. unfortunately, if a single terminal is left running, the database files are held "in use" and are skipped.

I have to agree MS backup is not very intelligent.
