I have a client who wants to scan large numbers of documents and store them as image files referenced in an Access DB.

Does anyone have any experience using Access VB or VB to "drive" a scanner? I am hoping that there is a brand of scanner that exposes its properties and methods much like one can use VB to drive Word.

Thanks in advance.

We have an Access Certified mail program and we scan certified mail cards and use Access with File Magic 5 Series. File Magic is a 32-bit file server document management software suite that provides capture, indexing, retrieval, editing, annotation and distribution of both paper and electronic documents and images via LAN, fax, email and printers. You will have to know some VB but it works great for us.

Might the client know that images take up *huge* space in an Access file. Might be a better strategy to store them as separate images, and use the data base to keep track of information that allows you to recall them. Then use an image box to display the form.
