Since installation of SP2 I am unable to reload the driver for my Canoscan D1250U2, both Canon and Microsoft blame each other for ther problem which does not help as I still cannot use the Scanner
Canon believe it is a USB problem related to secutity with SP2
Has anyone any ideas how to resolve

Some thoughts from the Newsgroups:

Unplug the usb for the scanner. Open up device manager
and Uninstall the drivers for your scanner. Then use the
install disk cd and install drivers for your scanner.
Then run the update drivers for scanner. Re-attach usb
and reboot.

USB ports are, by default, set to be turned off while not being used to save power. This option can be unchecked in the Device Manager under USB ports - each Root Hub must be configured separately.

Thanks for the ideas, I should have stated I have deleted all the files related to the scanner on the instruction of Canon and removed all links between the scanner and the computer and attepted to reload.
The computer will not load in any of the driver files on the disc supplied with the scanner, I have downloaded the drivers from Canon and they will not load and run
There is no recognition by the PC that the scanner is part of the system other than the flag in the right hand corner of the screen advises that a new unrecognised piece of hardware has been connected .

Just because I do not know in detail what was loaded and unloaded:

. You really want the XP SP2 USB root hub drivers loaded. Forget any USB drivers on the Canon disk. Just to be sure:

Start, Run, sfc /Scannow

. Many USB devices should not be connected while installing the driver set. Your Canon is one.

. My comment above, I believe by Cari Frische, MVP, that the Canon needs for an installation to have the USB hub properties not to power save makes some sense to me. You need to enable this property and reset your computer for it to have effect.

. Could you describe exactly your USB setup? I have resolved a lot of issues with USB devices by using a powered hub rather than a case/motherboard connection.

Your scanner can work, I honestly believe it can work under XP SP2.
