scanned bmp or jpg

is there any way to retrieve text off of a scanned jpg or bmp?
any way at all?

I have used this program called OmniPage Pro. It is basically an OCR (text recognition) program. It can read text on pretty much any scanned document or image. There are also many other programs that will probably do this, too. I suggest searching for free OCR programs on Google, and you should be able to find one. Hope this helps.
