when trying to run McAfee Virus Scan Online, up popped a message:
"Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or may not have been installed properly. Please reinstall ActiveShield."
Dutifully I complied, and then got the same message again, then reinstalled, then same message ... ad infinitum. I thought perhaps Scandisk would help clear this up, but it won't run more than a few blips before restarting, using up the first ten starts in less than two minutes and never getting anywhere.
Does this require an OS transplant? Or will a tweak or two fix it?

Scandisk will restart every time a program accesses the hard disk. If you want to run it under Windows, make sure you have disabled things like McAfee and screen savers, etc.

Alternatively reboot to Dos or Safe Mode and run it from there. With regards to Activesheild, previous problems like this have required uninstalling first, even tho' it's not properly installed, then reinstalling. If you have particular problems, McAfee online help is not bad, and you can get a reply from technicians fairly quickly if you email them.

Good Luck
