To check for disk errors when your computer starts
Click Start, point to Programs, point to StartUp, and then right-click ScanDisk.
Click Properties.
On the Shortcut tab, type one or more of the following after the text that appears in the Target box. To do this Type this
Specify the drive you want to check. x:
(where x is the drive letter)
Check all your local hard disks. /a
Start and quit ScanDisk automatically. /n
Prevent ScanDisk from correcting any errors it finds. /p

If you don’t have ScanDisk in your StartUp folder, click Related Topics below.
To check drive D and start and quit ScanDisk automatically, type the following in the Target box:
c:\windows\scandskw.exe d: /n
To check all hard disks but prevent ScanDisk from correcting any errors it finds, type:
c:\windows\scandskw.exe /a /p
Also read this if your problem is not that Scandisk is in your startup folder.
