Hi,
Is there a tool (either 3rd party or bundled with exchange) that I can use to scan our exchange 5.5 information stores for a specific text phrase within emails?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is anything within exchange that can do this. There are spam tools that I think can filter by phrase that you can use for searching for any kind of text (I'd imagine) I've never used a 3rd party vendor for this but there are numerous products out there.

The spam filter tools usually read the mail BEFORE it gets into the IS (as SMTP traffic, not by accessing the .edb.)

I am not familiar with software that will access the IS directly (except Exmerge...hmmm) Run Exmerge to make all mailboxes into .pst then using your Exchange Client (Outlook) open all these .pst at once and perform your text search there probably takes long time if you have many mailboxes, but its free.

You need 3rd party toosl to do this. ActiveFolders will do it, there are others as well - Google for exchange 5.5 content scanning.
