I currently have a Small Business Server 2003 and two Windows Server Std 2003 joined to the domain server which the SBS 2003 server . I added another two MS Windows Std 2003 servers recently to the domain and the one of new servers had an issue with picking up the security groups permissions off the SBS 2003 server. When you go to the properties of a drive then click on security tab and try and add a security group from your DNS server it does not pick it up the active directory.

In Sharing and security, if you look at the locations and object types of a particular drive properties it only sees itself being (servername) instead of (DomainName.local ). It just won’t see the Domain active directory that has all the security groups on it that I want to add to the drive. I have tried un-installing the Server 2003 from the domain and changing its server name and still have no luck. I am maybe beginning to think that SBS 2003 has a limit on how many servers it is allowed to have joined to it’s domain.

At the moment I have the drive shared to everyone group until I resolve the issue.

There are no limits to the number of standard servers that may be joined to an SBS domain.

Have you reviewed your event logs on the server?

Have you checked your DNS settings as well? Are they pointed to ONLY the SBS server for DNS

Thanks for your reply.
Services: It does not have DNS server installed on the Window 2003 STD and only DNS client service's running. The only server that has DNS installed is the SBS 2003 server. I can't point the security permissions to the DNS server which is the issue.

The event logs errors are under security:
