We are having some problems with this SBS 2003 server not appearing in the browse list for the domain, if you go to network places then entire network and Microsoft Windows network everything is there apart from the server computer
name!

Also, when you vpn to the server everything connects ok and dns ip etc. look all ok but you can't access a computer name, you have to use the computers ip address. This is being used for remote desktop.

The client also uses a remote site which they send print jobs to, this is done by the remote site connecting to the server via vpn and simply having it's local printer shared, then a printer is configured on the pc's to print
to this , which has been working fine. But now it is not possible to access the pc via computer name only ip address! But connecting to the printer gives a error about the printer being disconnected from the server??? But all works ok local from this remote pc.

The server setup is SBS 2003 SP1 with ISA 2004 and 2 NICS... Have also tried with a single nic and no ISA and still get the same sort of problems.....

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Regards
Debbie

For the browse issue you need to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the DNS tab of the Servers NIC TCP/IP settings.

The VPN problems are due to the DNS not getting pushed down from the VPN connection. Manually set the DNS to be the SBS box IP for the VPN connection.

As a final checkup, just verify that the SBS box has its own IP listed as the only DNS server on the NIC TCP/IP settings. Your ISP DNS should only be listed in the Forwarders tab of the DNS snap-in. Your DHCP in SBS should list the SBS box for DNS in the scope options and not any ISP DNS.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
