Hi All,

I have been fighting with a new SBCE for a couple of weeks now with no joy.
It is the CAD model.
I can Serial on, install the software, configure the system but I cannot for the life of me get a network connection.
If I run ip addr show I get NO CARRIER on port M1.
If I connect to a switch, laptop or anything I get no link lights, its like the hardware is disabled.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Andy

I bet you have the newer CAD0230 box and not the older CAD0208. The newer one has M2 interface and a Push Button power switch while the older one only has one M interface and a real power switch.

And I also bet you trie to install ASBCE Software 7.0

Had the same. Seems to be a driver problem. It worked as soon as I installed 7.1

I installed one yesterday and had the samey problem.
You need to push tree cable in very well.
Not all cables for t very well too.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Not in my case Peter. I got a link as soon as I powered it up and the link went away at the moment the OS began to start.

Aha, we updated it to the latest version yesterday which took some time and then there was no link :)

Yep, according to the install key that came with it, it is version R7.0

Funny that it comes on 7.0 while not supported?

Go to Sonus and get their SBC - its a revelation after working with the Avaya one.

Avaya tries to amuse us every day =) Guess someone had a bunch of USB sticks they wanted to get rid of.

It's a good way to cause issues for you customers, who wouldn't assume that the provided software should work for the hardware?

I think they should write in the GA/SP release notes which hardware is supported, can't find anything about that in there.
Only place I see it is in the installation manual where only 7.1 states it supports the new Portwell, but if you already installed a bunch of these you will probably not spend that much time reading the manual again.

Mine had been delivered with 7.1 pre installed and I installed 7.0 because I had issues with the DMZ relay service on 7.1 GA (on CAD 0208).

But it seeto work on 7.1 together with CAD0230.

Those USB keys with ASBCE are as useless as the Admin or server edition DVDs they try to deliver with every IPO. But the USB key is reusable though... only the IPO servers don't seem to boot with those.

What Pepp77 said. And when Avaya go belly up at least you'll have something left over which can be used with whatever PBX systems you move to! (Even Microsoft Cloud PBX).

I find the SBCE quite easy to work with, although I can only compare it to Mediant which was a nightmare at best =)
Also if the unlikely happens (seems to be a popular rumor these days) you can still use it for any PBX, it's Sipera in the bottom and there are documents how to use it in a S4B implementation among others.

I have yet to find the need for a SBC, our SIP installations are as secure as anyone elses, probably more than most and we dont use SBC, even for Gamma which are the trunks with the largest security liabilty pushed to the customer :)

I used it only once for SIP Trunks and the other times for remote workers.

Vpn client and softphones for remote workers or deskphones and LAN to LAN VPN, it can never be truly secure even through SBC with dynamic IPs client side :)

I ran into the exact issue a few days ago on a site with the Portwell 0268. Cost me almost the whole day on site, as we kept defaulting it trying to hit the management port.

Try plugging the M1 patch cord into the B2 port. I did this and was successful. We were able to configure the management port.

My theory is that there is a manufactoring error with the card placement, and the network cards are upside down.

Andy, if you use the mobile client then it is a must.
Avoiding the need is better but sometimes you cannot avoid it.
I like the option to allow only avaya phones with a rule.
This makes it even more secure.

Client side certification is coming! That will make it substantially more secure (not unbreakable, but to most intents and purposes)

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

But when Matt? It is for now hardly used in some (too less) VPN solutions and for wireless LAN. Sometimes for Ethernet NAC but not too often...
