Saving windows update

hi,
is there any way to save the windows update files on my hardrive, so when i reinstall my operating system i dont have to spend hours downloading them again?!

I believe they are in a folder/file called WU but a I could never find them.

If you go to the link I have posted you can Download and save to a CD, SP1 all critical updates for XP...dont ask me how it has been done but the 59MB had been compressed to about 10MB....this is a blessing for all us XP users!

Go to:

You can download any SP or patch seperatley and save it on CD or so.

To save "updates": look at the file description - go to "more..." - when you find the file number you can right click and "save as".

Visit the Windows Update Web site:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Allow it to Scan for Updates and note the details of any updates offered.
Return to the home page of the Windows Update Web Site.

Click Personalize Windows Update.
Select the Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also check box.
Click Save Settings.
A Windows Update Catalog link appears under See Also. Click the Windows Update Catalog link.
Click Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Click the appropriate product (windows XP SP1 etc.), and then click Search.
Click Recommended or Critical Updates.
Locate the patch you want, and then click Add.
Click Go to download basket.
In the Type or browse to the download location of your choice box, type the full path for the folder in which you want to save the patch. Or, click Browse to browse to the folder.
Click Download Now.

OK how does a person run the updates after you save them Instead of installing them one at a time???
