Hey Guys-
I am EXTREMELY new to the windows server environment. 2 days new, to be exact! My boss is curious if there is a way to save group policies so that they can be applied towards different Domain Controllers in the future. "Figure out a way to not have to reinvent the wheel every time we set one of these up" was his exact words. The company I work for deals alot with setting up servers for large companies and hosting the servers in our office. Users then login via terminal services. The users tend to love downloading garbage, and installing stuff with spyware, so we're trying to prevent them from doing anything but work related stuff on their PC. I've set up the group policies to limit this server from allowing the users to do these things. Now, we need to know if we can apply it to other servers without manually setting each one again. I'm really new to all of this, so it is a bit daunting. I have no idea if it is possible to save these policies to disk, so any help is appreciated.

GPMC offers the ability to export GP settings. It also gives you the ability to link to an existing policy. You can use the same policy in multiple locations in your AD.

Regarding your DCs, any policy you create that hits the Domain Controller container will hit ALL DCs you add to that container.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

Hate to be a pain, but since I'm so new can you give me an idea where in the GPMC you export it? I'm really sorry for all this newbie BS, but the help is greatly appreciated. ;-)

Navigate int he GPMC to where you see the list of all group policies (not under the OU structure) and right click...

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark

Hey Mark-
I somewhat figured it out. I didn't realize that the GPMC was an add on from microsoft that had to be installed separately. I found it on MS website this afternoon. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but I'll try to tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again!
