Hi,
has anybody got the following behaviour before?

I have a Solaris-Backupserver with NetWorker 7.1.3. The saveset (E:) from a Backup Client (WIN2003-Server) was backed up successfully. No errors in the NetWorker or WIN eventlogs.
As soon as the backup has been ended for "E:" it was started again for this saveset.

Here this part of the daemon.log:
04/15/05 16:03:16 nsrd: WIN2003:C:\ saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031)
04/15/05 16:03:23 nsrd: WIN2003:D:\ saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031)
04/15/05 16:03:24 nsrd: WIN2003:E:\ saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031)
04/15/05 16:03:27 nsrd: WIN2003:D:\ done saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031) 10 MB
04/15/05 16:09:07 nsrd: WIN2003:C:\ done saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031) 1144 MB
04/15/05 17:36:56 nsrd: WIN2003:E:\ done saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031) 39 GB
04/15/05 17:37:16 nsrd: WIN2003:E:\ saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031)

NOW: here I stopped the savegrp-process because I didn't want to have the double-backup of WIN2003:E:\.
04/15/05 17:52:12 nsrd: savegroup alert: Default aborted, total 1 client(s), 0 Hostname(s) Unresolved, 1 Failed, 0 Succeeded. (WIN2003 Failed)
04/15/05 17:52:14 nsrd: WIN2003:E:\ done saving to pool 'SystemData2' (B00031) 3090 MB

Note: the client-retries setting of the Savegroup "Default" is set to "3". But as far as I know this should only be activated if an error occurres. i.e. "RPC error...." or something like that.

Any idea what is wrong here?

Thanks and regards
Martin

This looks weird - why would NW do this? - I seems that either the group is internally restarted. Can you just specify very small save sets and find yout if "savegrp -v -G group" will create more output?

Hello,
I started the backup now with the "-v" option:

# savegrp -v l full -c WIN2003 -G Default

This is the output in the daemon.log on the NW-Server:

04/18/05 11:08:47 nsrd: savegroup info: Default running on WIN2003

Saveset E: should backup 41GB (Size of the partition on the WIN-Server). Instead of that, it starts twice from the beginning after saying "done saving....".
No entries in the logs on the Client!

Hmmm - i try to find and explaination. It somehow points to defect resources. What happens if you create a new group with the same parameters, disable Autostart for the old group and move the clients to the new group?

Hi,
sorry for the delay, I was occupied by a problem with the network. So we had also troubles with the backup......

I did the configuration change: moved the WIN2003 client to a new group. Autostart and Autorestart both disabled. Dedicated to a pool device using a diskdevice.

This time the full-backup runs without any retries. I tried it two times -> no problems.

I guess I have to "recheck" the group and tapedevice configuration. If I can't find any mistake, I'll move the client back into its origin group. Then I will see, if the retry troubles were perhaps also related to the network connection problems.

thanks and regards
Martin

A similar thing happened to me a while ago. However, the effect was not the same. But when i moved the client to another group, it worked fine.
