I just finished setting up an SBS2003 server for a client. One of his requests was that he wanted a copy of all inbound and outbound mail sent to another mailbox. In other words he is monitoring his employees use of the email.

I was able to set it up so that when the users recieve inbound mail a copy is sent to an alternate recipient (ie the other mailbox) but I am having problems figuring out how to save a copy of the outbound mail.

I am sure this can be done but I am having problems searching for the solution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are already many threads covering this issue.
They all come down to the same thing.

The very first thing to do is to make 200% sure every single employee KNOWS and AGREED in WRITING they are aware of this and approve.
If not, whoever reads or gives access to someone elses email is violating privacy laws.

Thanks for the reply but there is no answer here.

Considering that this work is being done for a lawyer I leave the legalities to him. It is not my job to tell him how to run his business.

If there are many threads can you point me in the right direction as my queries have not found anything.

FYI

Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Act
Under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002 and Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules, public companies must prove that their internal controls and audit trails are sound and that their processes are capable of producing certifiably correct data. Companies must retain all correspondence created, sent, or received "in connection with an audit or review" of a public company for a period of seven years, during which time these records must be non-erasable and non-rewritable. This includes any "electronic records" such as email, particularly relating to subjects, departments or individuals involved in auditing procedures. Failure to comply is a crime, punishable by up to 10 years in jail.

If you simply search for 'copy' you would already find threads like:

thread955-798693
thread955-911388

But what you really should be doing is journaling.

PS: I know about that stupid law, but that has nothing to do with the other law, the protection of privacy one.
And that one can get YOU in trouble if YOU are not covered.
Just an advice , that has also been brought up several times. here and in the Exchange 2000 Forum. Protect yourself by getting at least the order in writing AND signed!
