I have Giga-byte 8IG1000mk I setup and installed os on SATA0 (very nice and fast)

I set the on-chip SATA to manual
sata port 0 config as ide master
sata port 1 not used
primary and secondary IDE enabled

I cant get an CD rom drive to configure on primary Slave, nothing shows up, i move it secondary its fine. I have 4 total IDE devices to install.

any ideas what im doing wrong

What happens if you keep the CD-ROM drive on the secondary channel, and install another device as primary Slave?

I have a DVD writer and a western digital Hard Drive, Ive tried all combinations.

It seems like the sata is taking the entire channel, the sata 1 is open.

there are a few options for config on the sata, I choose ide master

Go to Google, and type sata "primary master" gigabyte
You will find a bunch of links showing others having the same problem with Gigabyte MB's.

One link indicates that if an IDE channel is mapped to either SATA controller, then no device will work if it's directly connected to that IDE channel.
Another link says that updating the BIOS will fix things.

Good luck.

I forgot to mention that if you're unsuccessful in resolving the problem, then one work around for connecting the SATA HD as a bootable drive and 3 IDE drives is to install a PCI IDE controller card(Promise makes good ones).

Thats Funny i have alreay put a promise card, i had to have the DVD burner, for some data backup

thanks, ill try the bios tomorrow and post an update

thanks again
tim

If you already have a PCI IDE controller card installed, then there should be enough connections for the 4 IDE devices(2 on the secondary IDE channel and 2 on the card), and you may not have to update the BIOS.
