Hi, all

my solaris 5.8 Generic_108528-23
I run the /usr/lib/sa/sa1 in crontab and run every 5 mins

but when I want ot use sar to see the report,
it show the errors:

21:42:56 %usr %sys %wio %idle
17:10:22 unix restarts
sar data files couurpt; specified sizeexceeds actual

I'm sure the system was not reboot/restart.
is anyone encounter this problem before?

thanks,

From my experence, I removed the corrupted file for the process to re-generate the sar file.

I removed the file and re-generate
but after 30 mins later, the file currupted again. :-(

Do the file system full?

My cronjob is like this:
0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /usr/lib/sa/sa1
And you?

Do your sa1 corrupted also? Try:

SunOS 5.8
# cksum /usr/lib/sa/sa1
2660901438 492 /usr/lib/sa/sa1

SunOS 5.6
cksum /usr/lib/sa/sa1
1073922360 483 /usr/lib/sa/sa1

How about yours?

my crontab of sa1 is same with yours ,
the file checksum are also the same

the file system is not full, it still have 500MB left

Maybe related to your patch level. My box also had problem with 5.8 (Sun Fire 480R) and my supplier suggested to upgrade the patch. The problem fixed and now which is Generic_114018-01. But yours is Generic_108528-23. Try to upgrade your patch first is my suggestion.

thanks your help
because you metion the crontab, I double-check the crontab again.
finally, I may found the root cause
I found the /var/spool/cron/crontabs/sys

in this crontab, it also run sa1 every 10 mins
I think it may confilct with my root's crontab
so I remark the sys's jobs

so far it looks good, no error shows

if tomorrow is still ok, then this problem is solved.

thanks.
