Hello, I am running a SuSE 9.1 installation with Samba 3 that I plan to incorporate into a Windows Active Directory network as a file server. I have configred smb.conf, krb5.conf, nsswtich.conf and the login and sshd files in /etc/pam.d. I can get user info when I run wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g and getent commands are also successful. I am able to use smbclient to see shares on the Active Directory servers. However, I cannot login into my linux box with Windows accounts....I should be able to shouldn't I? I have been staring at this now for a while and cannot figure it out, any help would be appreciated...thanks.

Sounds like you've got a problem in your /etc/pam.d/ files. Can you post the contents of the files.

I'm running debian, here's what I have but these may not work for you:

common-account file:
account sufficient pam_winbind.so
account sufficient pam_unix.so use_first_pass nullok

common-auth file:
auth sufficient pam_winbind.so
auth required pam_unix.so use_first_pass nullok use_authtok
auth required pam_securetty.so
auth required pam_nologin.so
session required /lib/security/pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel umask=0077

These may not be correct but they work for me.

hope that helps,
