I know I've read about this before but not that I am experiencing it I cannot locate it. We just upgraded our Samba to 3.0.10 and our XP desktops work fine but our older ones runnins W98SE/W2K can "see" the shares but when attempting to access receive the error "Not Found".

Can anyone remember the reason and what needed to be done to resolve it? I thought it was something that was corrected with verison 3.0.7+ and we're on .10.

Suggestions anyone? Thanks.

Hi Bob,

You probably want to look at the browse settings in your smb.conf, sounds like samba is breaking netbios.

Do you have a wins server, domain controller, other machines that want to be browse masters?

Unless you want samba to be the master, I've found it simpler to just leave samba out of the browse list game entirely, recently had a problem with our samba machine mangling the browse list. if you want to force samba to leave netbios alone here are the settings I'm using:

disable netbios = no
domain logons = no
domain master = no
local master = no
preferred master = no
wins support = no
wins proxy = no
wins server = 192.168.1.1

Probably the most important setting would be the disable netbios = no, because thats the only means for the 98 boxes.

hope that helps,
