I am running a dbdefrag and I'm getting worried at how long its taking to complete. I'm afraid it will be running when my next backup job is suppose to kick off. Is it safe to terminate the uility without corrupting the database and then rerun it at a later time?

I have the job engine stopped so no jobs can run but I can't go without a backup.

Thanks!

Wouldn't recommend it as it may leave the database in an inconsistant state.

If it is a large database say several gig or more it could take days, especially if it has not been run before.

Depending on the version of ARCserve it may or may not run backups just fine with the Datbase off line. It will not hurt anything to let the job run, worse case it will fail and have to be rescheduled.
